Rance Boren, M.D.

Dr. Boren was born in Greenville, MS, but has spent most of his life in Texas.  He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Biochemistry.  In 1992 he received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.  He completed a medical internship at Baylor University Medical Center, followed by a neurology residency at UT Southwestern Medical School, both in Dallas.  He served as Chief Resident of Neurology and spent one year on the UT Southwestern faculty prior to returning to practice at Baylor.  After his wife (Dr. Carol Boren) finished her ophthalmology residency they moved to Brownwood and opened their private practice here in 1999.

Practice

Dr. Boren practices comprehensive neurology, treating patients from about 5 years and up.  He has a special interest in stroke, concussion, and headache, but also treats patients with dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, peripheral nerve and muscle disorders, brain tumors, and sleep disturbances.   

Dr. Boren obtained his certification in neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1998 and re-certified in 2017.  He also earned board certification in sleep medicine in 2011.  He is a member of the Texas Neurological Society, the American Association of Neurology, and has served as Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Interests

Dr. Boren is active as a scout leader and coaches chess in the Brownwood schools, and is a voracious reader.  When not attending his children’s sporting events he exercises sporadically, enjoying endurance activities such as biking and open-water swimming.
